Aeons

In the heat of the summer I run to the water
to plead with Mother Nature to open my heart
so the child inside me can shriek with joy.
When the season fades to autumn,
and the burn of summer begins to disappear,
I breathe in her aromatic, mild air
crisp enough to remind me of what I have lost
Mother, can you protect me from what I want?

Yet ever so frigid is winter's reminder
that pristine snow turns to biting ice in the night,
leaving my heart clenched around the ache
to shield me from what just healed me
a few dozen moons ago.
But one day this will be over,
as the soothing thaw of spring is not so far away.
Mother, can you protect me from what I want?

The love I let in, it left me so lost.

You'll find a rooftop to sing from
Or find a hallway to dance
You don't need no edge to cling from
Your heart is there, it's in your hands
I know it seems like forever
I know it seems like an age
But one day this will be over
I swear it's not so far away"
